A Rocklin man suspected of burglarizing businesses closed by the coronavirus pandemic was arrested on Wednesday by Placer County deputies.

In a news release, the Placer County Sheriff’s Office said that Sean Gray, 36, was taken into custody after he was pulled over for driving an unregistered vehicle.

Gray had been driving Kelsey Heard, 28, of Rocklin to the Placer County courthouse in Tahoe City, when the two were pulled over by a deputy who spotted false registration tags.

The vehicle Gray was driving was unregistered, and after conducting a traffic stop, the deputy searched the vehicle, as Gray was on parole.

The deputy discovered electronics and other items suspected to have been stolen from shuttered local businesses, plus personal documents and information possibly related to identity theft.

Gray was arrested on suspicion of violating his parole, burglary and possessing ammunition, stolen property and forged documents. Heard was arrested on suspicion of violating her parole and possessing drugs and paraphernalia.

Tahoe-area investigators with the Placer County Sheriff’s Office have identified several victims of identity theft and fraud believed to be linked to the evidence seized in the search.
