NATIONAL CITY — National City police were investigating a shooting Tuesday after two people with gunshot wounds to their legs showed up at a gas station early in the morning.

The injured pair went to a convenience store at a Shell gas station on National City Boulevard, just north of west 33rd Street, shortly after 3 a.m., according to National City police.

The 37-year-old woman and 29-year-old man were taken to a hospital by paramedics to be treated for injuries were not believed to be life-threatening, said National City police Capt. Alex Hernandez.

Officers are trying to figure out where the shooting occurred. Hernandez said the victims were not being very cooperative.

One victim indicated the shooting happened somewhere near a Walmart in Chula Vista but no evidence linked to the shooting has been found in that location, Hernandez said.

A stolen Honda Accord was found in the parking lot of the gas station and investigators will try to determine if it was related to the shooting.

“We are trying to identify a crime scene,” Hernandez said. “We are not sure how they arrived to that gas station and more importantly, where the crime scene happened. There is nothing to indicate the shooting took place there.”

Detectives planned to review surveillance video and also process the stolen car to see if there’s a direct connection to the victims, he said.
