Man arrested in Santa Rosa for DUI after high-speed chase, slower foot race

A 38-year-old man was arrested early Monday after leading Santa Rosa police on a chase at speeds that exceeded 100 mph, authorities said.

Danne James Petras, of Windsor, was booked into Sonoma County Jail on felony charges for evading a police officer and misdemeanor charges for driving under the influence of drugs and resisting arrest, according to the Santa Rosa Police Department.

Officers attempted to stop Petras just before 1 a.m. when he exited off the southbound Highway 101 off-ramp to Steele Lane, said Sgt. Christopher Mahurin, a spokesman for the Santa Rosa Police Department.

Petras reportedly attempted to flee by speeding faster than 100 mph before finally coming to a stop on the 1600 block of Greeneich Avenue. He then jumped out of his car and made a run for it.

Officers caught up to him after a short pursuit and struggle, police said.

His bail is set at $20,000 and he is expected to appear in court at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday.
