SACRAMENTO, Calif. (KCRA) — The state Legislature is honoring fallen Davis police Officer Natalie Corona.

A resolution that passed both the Assembly and the Senate designates a stretch of Interstate 5 the Officer Natalie Corona Memorial Highway.

The stretch of road starts at Greenbay Road in Colusa County and passes through Corona's hometown of Arbuckle.

Corona was the daughter of a retired Colusa County Sheriff’s Department deputy and an Arbuckle elementary school teacher.

The 22-year-old officer was killed in January. Corona's killer ambushed the officer while she was responding to a three-vehicle crash in downtown Davis. As Corona was helping drivers involved in the crash, the gunman rode up to the scene on a bicycle and opened fire on the officer.

After an hours-long manhunt, the gunman -- identified by police as 48-year-old Kevin Douglas Limbaugh -- was found dead in a downtown Davis home from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Additionally, the Davis City Council will consider a number of tributes to Corona during its meeting this week, including renaming a park and installing a statue of her in front of the Davis Police Department.
